HIGHLIGHT: African designer Imane Ayissi is unique in the world of high fashion as he is the first African designer to have the official “couture” label. All of the materials he used for his Spring 2022 designs are natural and organic, one textile is made from bamboo fiber. Originally hailing from Cameroon, Imane incorporated the Ewondo language into his designs. Square cuts and flowing fabric nodded to the traditional “boubou,” and worked into high-end fabrics. Tailored pieces were made with a fabric dyed using the adire method a form of tie-dyeing from Nigeria, or worked in kente fabric from Ghana for a belted jacket dress. After years of attempts to be accepted by PFW, in 2020 he was invited to join the official calendar of Paris Fashion Week. His 2022 show ended with Imane officially being made a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. His medal was presented by Pascal Morand, executive president of the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode. Congratulations Imane Ayissi! Links: WWD, AfricanVibes, CNNStyle -- source link
