Nat watched as the sun slowly, inexorably, slid towards the horizon. Red, orange and yellow rays cascaded over her, illuminating the sky momentarily before the impending approach of darkness. She was riveted to her spot, perched on the edge of the driver’s seat of her car, staring into the sunset while surrounded by unending desert, scruff and distant shadowed rocky cliffs. The nearby dirt road was empty in both directions for as far as she could see. She hoped it would be enough.She knew that when sundown came, the change would begin. Her golden brown hair would blow in an unseen wind, and settle a harsh platinum blonde. Nails would lengthen and inexplicably become finished in sparkly lacquer. Boobs would swell, straining against the fabric of her t-shirt. Clothing would shrink, contour and disappear, for the most part. Most of all, the curious intensity that tended to be her default expression would gradually morph into a meaningless vacant stare. She knew all of this because it happened each night, as soon as the sun disappeared and a full moon rose.
