clodiuspulcher:The metropolitan museum of art put a lot of their books out for free download and of COURSE I went straight for “The Art of Medicine in Ancient Egypt”. My favorite part was this amazing section on the Edwin Smith papyrus and the cases outlined therein -from reading these, honestly I’d trust Ancient Egyptian doctors with my broken bones / “mild” trauma wounds, though they seem to have been capable of effectively treating wounds that seem incredibly serious / life threatening to me!! The inclusion of honey was a frequent trend for wound healing in ancient medicine, and it does have bacteriostatic properties that would more effectively prevent infection than anything else they’d have lying around. And if you’re wondering about the meat, SPEAKING of infection (+ some other cool notes here): -- source link
