brilliantbotany: Carl Linnaeus (1707-1778) is the father of botanical nomenclature. In his book Species Plantarum, Linnaeus referred to plants by two-word names, thereby beginning the use of binomial nomenclature. His favorite plant was Linnaea borealis, the twinflower, and it can be seen on his jacket. He was rarely depicted without a bit of twinflower. Dear old Linnaeus. He gave the world so very much. It is my great sorrow that I never met him in person, though coming to know Dr Solander, one of Linnaeus’ apostles, made up for it. -- source link
