Abigail Adams (née Smith) was born on November 11 [O.S.], 1744, in Weymouth, Massachusetts. She was a bright child and avid reader who took an interest in everything from poetry to politics. Abigail fell in love with John Adams, a small farmer and lawyer from Braintree, and in 1764, they were married. They would go on to have four children (Abigail, John Quincy, Charles, and Thomas) and remained devoted to each other until Abigail’s death in 1818. She was highly influential in John’s political career, famously reminding him to “remember the ladies” in the new, independent American government, and was his eternal source of both comfort and counsel. Today, Abigail is considered a true “founding mother.” She was not only the second First Lady of the United States, but also the first of only two women to be both the wife and mother of a President. -- source link
