medusa-seduce-ya:southernraisedmarinecorpsmade:Just gonna say this is actually the first picture I’ve actually seen of wounded female veterans. Now that I think about it they are (in my eyes at least) hugely forgotten. Some female service members have been in combat and hit by IEDs outside the wire but it’s always the males you hear about and never the females. I think this picture is great and everyone should see it so please share it!Wow just realized this^^^I wonder if the reason we don’t see more pictures of wounded women veterans is because it’s considered “okay” to show men as having something other than a perfect outward appearance, but society doesn’t like it when women are similarly scarred or missing limbs because then they’re not “conventionally attractive” anymore. Ever notice how female characters in media never have big, noticeable scars - particularly on their their faces - like male characters are allowed to, or how they never sustain significant facial injuries? It’s like that. So this photo is extremely important! Of course women vets have the same injuries, scars and disabilities that male vets do, that’s only logical, but I get the feeling that a lot of people just don’t think of it because they never see women with the same “imperfections” as men are allowed to have. -- source link
