Charles M. Schulz, born on November 26th, 1922, would have turned 97 today! Well known for his comic strip Peanuts, Schulz is one of the most influential Americans cartoonists. Schulz began drawing at a young age, but put his cartoonist career on hold when he was drafted into World War II. After returning home from the war, Schulz pursued his dream of becoming a cartoonist. His first run, L’il Folks, lasted three years in his local newspaper, the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Peanuts made its debut on October 2nd, 1950, and took off from there. By the time Schulz retired in December 1999, Peanuts had been translated into more than 25 languages and appeared in 2,600 newspapers worldwide. The last original Peanuts comic appeared in the Sunday paper on February 13th, 2000, the day after Schulz’s death, confirming his prediction that Peanuts would outlive him. There have been no new Peanuts comics, movies, or storylines created since Schulz’s death, only reissues of Schulz’s work. This strip comes from the Mary Lois Bull collection, a collection of clippings from newspaper comics related to books and libraries.References:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_M._Schulzhttps://schulzmuseum.org/about-schulz/schulz-biography/ -- source link
