The total attendance of nearly 3.6 million for the final tournament remains the highest in World Cup history, despite the expansion of the competition from 24 to 32 teams (and from 52 to 64 matches) just four years later. The USA, wearing the ugliest jersey’s by any team in the World Cup, ever, would go on to win their second match of the tournament, marking their first win in a world cup since 1950. Brazil would continue their soccer dominance winning their 4th World Cup title. Fitting that on the 20th anniversary they are hosting the World Cup this year. Nine venues played home to the games, all (american) football stadiums The Rose Bowl outside Los Angeles, CA Pontiac Silverdome outside of Detroit, MI Stanford Stadium outside of San Francisco, Citrus Bowl outside Orlando, FL Soldier Field in Chicago, IL Cotton Bowl in Dallas TX Foxboro Stadium outside Boston, MA Giants Stadium, outside New York, NY Robert F Kennedy Memorial Stadium in Washington DC Brazil beat Italy in penalty kicks in the finals on July 17th after the 90 minute game and over time ended with a 0-0 tie. -- source link
