onlymonica: Trump calls foreign nations ‘shithole countries’; Lawmakers ‘taken aback’Oh, heavens to mergatroid – I got my undies all in a bundle over our distinguished Commander in Chief’s latest imbroglio – complaining about allowing the U.S. allowing immigrants from ‘shithole countries’ like Haiti, El Salvador, and certain African nations from continuing to come into our country. Why don’t we allow more immigrants from countries like Norway? O.K. - a little truth telling. My ancestors came here from Scandinavia over 100 years ago, and I’m proud of my heritage. But I don’t ever elevate it above immigrants from other countries – never even considered it. And I’m not a ‘bleeding heart liberal’ who wants to just open the gates to whoever/whatever. But I have a certain degree of faith that the centuries of immigration that built this nation are instructive: Let the best, brightest, and most needy enter, and let their human potential shine. (My Swedish ancestors were once treated like scum in many communities; now the President of the U.S. himself wants to claim my same Swedish heritage as his, because he’s somehow afraid he comes from German roots. Who the fuck cares???? You’re ridiculous, Trump). But here’s the comical thing about this latest episode of ‘As the Trump Stinks’. Apparently after Trump pissed all over certain countries, certain Congresspeople in attendance were ‘taken aback’. Well, Lord sakes! Have you ever been ‘taken aback’? Oh, it’s terrible, so very, VERY terrible!!. You feel the combination of a fever and a chill, your wrist goes to your forehead, and you recline your neck ever so slightly while hosting a horrified look on your face. Then you go back to checking your phone for messages, thinking about the roast beef sub you’ll eat for lunch, check the score of that game you bet on, and maybe ogle the guy or girl who’s ‘eye candy’ in the meeting. And that’s about the same way the rest of the country will act to anything Trump says or does. We’ve long passed the point when we’re going to be shocked by anything Trump says or does. If he can be caught on tape talking about grabbing women’s pussies and still get elected, what else can he say or do that could further alienate anyone? Seriously – he has the ultimate blank check for any behavior under the sun. And it won’t matter: You either like/support him, or you don’t. The ONLY thing that matters is the midterm elections, just 11 months away. That will be the national referendum on this great experiment of ‘hey – let’s try ‘stupid’ in the White House. We haven’t done that yet, have we???’Look, I’m not being too flippant here by saying Trump could brutally rape a 12-year old girl in front of her parents, tweet about it, and his supporters would say ‘she was asking for it/this is just ‘locker room behavior’/so what?? - the American people don’t care!!’, while progressives and moderates would be ‘taken aback’.
