Mongol stirrup from the 16th or 17th century CE, decorated with gold and silver. Mongols did not invent the stirrup, but may have used metal ones instead of leather or cloth for the first time. These allowed them to rotate on horseback and gave them a remarkable platform for devastating archery. This example is, of course, much more elaborate than standard soldiers’ stirrups.{WHF} {HTE} -- source link
