These are the very first pieces of Avatar fan art. I know that because they were made before the series was even animated (when Katara was still named Kya). They were drawn by my nephew Alexander, in 2002/2003 when he was 7. We included them in the back of our series bible. Now he’s a 22-year-old, 6’3” college student, visiting me in LA this week. The last photo in the set shows me holding him when I was around his current age at my graduation from RISD in ‘98.
