trexinchicago:I met Trixie Mattel two years ago. She came to one of my shows out of drag where I just carrying on, being an asshole like normal & she came up to me after very urgently & asked me to book her. She wasn’t getting booked in Milwaukee because she was too offensive but the Chicago drag scene is actually very receptive to Anne Frank & alcoholic dad jokes so I looked her up on her Instagram (she had like 400 followers), talked about it with my BFF & drag sounding board Kim Chi, & we made it happen. Soon, she was taking the greyhound from Milwaukee for 3 out of every 4 shows. People were obsessed and she fit in perfectly. Before she went on to tour the world, Trixie, Kim Chi, & I worked the next solid year together & it felt like summer camp the whole time. Some girls want to go to the show, lip sync, & leave, but we would stay up late dancing, ripping shots, acting like morons trying to make each other laugh the hardest. That year was one of the most exciting, rewarding, & creatively inspiring times in my life & it really taught me that work can be fun. If you can pick who you hang around, pick happy people that want to make you happy. -- source link
