cauldron-chatter: breelandwalker: daily-cats: “My Cat, Not My Home” And “My Home, Not My Cat” Tweets About Cats That Do What They Want We had a cat who did this. She was the neighborhood stray, a little grey tortie who charmed at least three households into feeding and sheltering her on a rotating basis. One would occasionally get her checked out at the vet, another would regularly change her flea collar, and so on. And when she got pregnant, she would just pick one of the houses and stay there until her kittens were born and weaned. This happened at least twice, and the final time, we were the family she picked and we decided to adopt her and her three babies. They stayed with us for the next 18 years. My cousins live in the country and kept a cat to keep pests away. He was a killer by all accounts and he would go on “hunting trips” for weeks or sometimes months at a time. When he was gone for a few years we assumed the worst until one day I walked in their house, sat on the couch, and this giant old cat rose from his slumber long enough to crawl into my lap and fall back asleep. He left again not long after that and we learned that some houses down by the lake were feeding him. Haven’t seen him since. And similarly, when my parents dog died the neighbors cats started hanging out in their yard more often. I would get sent pictures of my parents on their patio with a cat in their lap or in the flower pots. I’ve been on the phone with my parents and mid conversation they have to yell at the cats “this isn’t your house!” While the cats casually tried to get in every time they opened the door. My parents have never fed them. It’s very upsetting to see how many people I follow continuing to condone things such as this. None of this is cute or okay or safe for the animals or humans involved. I won’t even bother with details, however it’s scary to see the amount of individuals that pride themselves on being well-informed that also brush things like this under the rug. Pets are not part of the natural food chain. Pets should never be allowed to “do what they want” outdoors unsupervised. I am flabbergasted by every single on of these tweets and there are numerous glaringly obvious issues with all of them. -- source link
