Some Shepard-related posts by Kate Beaton prompted me to search for images of these three volumes. E.H. Shepard illustrated this series of books for Bell and Sons – abridged versions of Boswell’s Life of Dr Johnson and Pepys’s Diary, and selections from Lamb’s writings. The Shepard illustrations are perfect; rich in detail and evocative in character.
