lamus-dworski: Celebrations of Topienie Marzanny (Drowning of Marzanna) in the region of Kurpie Białe, Poland, 1977. Photo © Tomasz Krzywicki, via Wirtualny skansen. maybe the childhood drowning of the effigy of winter is why i love ritual so much as an adult. bit uneasy with basically drowning a symbolic woman in a kinda violent way; she was never re-born as an incarnation of spring (which i’m super into) in my version of childhood as the link suggests. i seem to write a lot of songs about rising from the ashes but really they’re about being transformed by trauma and not in a victorious way; they’re just about twisted morphology. -- source link
