But that’s not always fucking realistic, is it?Social media is obsessed with shaming people who get divorced, or break off a long-term relationship “too easily”. Even if you’re sharing this stuff because you feel really great about your relationship skills, it comes across as all sorts of judgmental. Look, no one goes into a marriage intending to get divorced. Nobody gathers up dozens of their friends and family, spends thousands of dollars and takes sacred vows in front of the authority of their choice thinking “I give this about two years, and then I’m calling the whole thing off if he leaves his towels on the bathroom floor”. That’s fucking crazy. Everything thinks their marriage is going to be forever, just like you do. But here’s the thing - despite what you might think, sometimes you can’t prevent divorce. Even if you’re with someone you’ve dated for years and years and you’re the most loving, dedicated spouse in the whole wide world, sometimes people snap and take it out on you. Maybe you were too young when you got married and you weren’t as ready as you thought. Maybe the relationship turns abusive out of nowhere. Shit happens, and when it does, people don’t need to see judgey picture after judgey picture everywhere they look. Getting divorced isn’t something that anyone plans - it can happen to anyone, including you. So enough with crap like this. It’s time to be a little more compassionate. -- source link
