First edition woodcut print of a rhinoceros created by Albrecht Dürer in 1515.In 1515 an Indian Rhinoceros was gifted to Pope Leo X from King Manuel I of Portugal.  Dürer never saw the rhinoceros in person but created a sketch based on descriptions of the animal. Unfortunately the rhino died in a ship wreck off the coast of Italy a year later.Albrecht Dürer’s rhino is currently on display at the British Museum. -- source link
