A cross stitch of Keaton Otis, murdered by Portland police May 12, 2010, by Nori Hadley (IG: @greengirl240) as part of the Stitch Their Names Memorial Project. About the project: Stitch Their Names Memorial Project organized by Holli Johannes (IG: @fritz.stitches). We are a group of cross-stitchers and quilters across the country (and beyond). The goal of this project is to honor the legacy of Black individuals for whom racism and hate have led to their deaths. Many hearts and hands (close to 100 people so far) are working to stitch individual portraits of those that have died. We want to honor that each individual lost represents tremendous grief and pain to those that loved them and to the entire community. We will be lovingly stitching the portraits together into one quilted art piece that will travel and be displayed throughout the country. In doing so, we hope to bring additional critical awareness to the collective loss and the horrific magnitude of Black persons being targeted by racism and bigotry in this country. A website is in process but for now you can see the others @fritzs.stitches on IG and FB. #JusticeForKeatonOtis #BlackLivesMatter #StitchTheirNames https://www.instagram.com/p/CD4X3xrBwiG/?igshid=31e2nmngx8nn -- source link
