nikator:bandana-roja:nikator:social-justice-activism:Join U.S. Democratic Socialists Activists GrouphahahahahahahahahahahahahaThis is very embarrassing even by demsoc standards. Way to celebrate someone who put Japanese citizens in internment camps to wash away their cultures and “americanize” them. What makes it even more pathetic is that FDR’s New Deal didn’t work, at all. Like, it straight up failed. The American economy on the eve of the Pearl Harbour was barely stronger than it had been when Hoover had left office in 1933, and business leaders (who had always hated Roosevelt) and indeed the wider populace was beginning to really question the good-news narrative when the country they were in was continuing to crumble around them. The only thing that saved the US economy was World War Two; as ever, capitalism could only survive through war and violence. The government granted various major companies huge contracts for the production of weapons and materiel, and the economy – at least on paper – thrived. This, along with the introduction of planned obsolescence for many items and the re-popularisation of hire-purchase allowed the parasitic US financial sector to crawl its way back to minimal levels of functionality.Applying the label of ‘socialist’ to a genocidal imperialist like FDR is not just an insult to both the tens of millions he terrorised and indeed basic political understanding, but it’s also telling of what demsocs consider success: mediocre, extremely limited reforms, military and economic domination of oppressed nations, and victory within rigged bourgeois electoral systems. -- source link
