Recently I visited the ruins of Teylingen Castle, which are only a 45 minute cycle away from Leiden in South Holland. Teylingen Castle was built between the 13th and 16th centuries, originally as a protection for the Rhine dike and the road to Haarlem, functioning as a hunting lodge for the counts of Holland later on. The rounded keep shown here is one of it’s most significant and unique characteristics. This week I wrote a blog post about this castle and it’s history at #TheLeidener, my university’s international student blog, if you want to check it out, follow the link in my bio.
