I was just reminded of this interesting little aside of collectible jewelry made in part from the Morpho Butterfly. Shipton and Co was granted a patent on using the butterfly wings in jewelry in 1922, but it was Thomas Mott who popularized them at the Great Empire Exhibition in 1924. These little treats are a miniature form of reverse glass paintings with actual butterfly wings in the painting. Jewelry of ladies or children are the most collectible form, but you will very often see tourists souvenirs made in tropical landscapes. They were popular though the rest of the 1920’s and into the 1930’s. -- source link
