The Bewcastle Cross is an Anglo-Saxon cross which still stands in its original position within the churchyard of St Cuthbert’s church in Bewcastle, Cumbria. The cross, which dates from the 7th-8th century, features reliefs, images of Christ and John the Baptist as well as inscriptions in the Anglo Saxon runic alphabet which translates as “This slender pillar Hwætred, Wæthgar, and Alwfwold set up in memory of Alefrid, a king and son of Oswy. Pray for them, their sins, their souls”. -- source link
