dcinthe80s: An apology and an invitation I’m going to begin by saying sorry that I haven’t posted in months, nay, almost a year. I haven’t been checking my tumblr inbox nor replying to messages. I’m apologizing to you, the tumblr audience, who reads this blog and has given me your support and your time. The average fansite/blog lasts about 2 years - especially if it’s written by a sole person who does it as a hobby and does all of their own research. Why only an average of 2 years? Because it takes a special kind of person who is so dedicated to his hobby that he can keep truckin’ on. This is no small feat. Especially if they are generating no income from their blog work (no - i’m not asking you for money). If you know anyone like that, send them a message and tell them how much you appreciate their hard work - they’ll like that. Sometimes it’s one of the few things that keep us, non-profit bloggers, going - the fans. My excuse is that I got de-railed. When you really start to delve into the the history of DC comics of the 1980s, you begin to realize that Marvel comics played a large part of it (ex: writers and artists were switching from one company to another) as does the independent comic movement (ex: Malibu, Comico, Pacific, Mirage, Dark Horse, Continuity, etc). As a blogger dedicated to my craft, I began reading these other comics (and studying a bit more on 80s culture). To make a long story short, I’ve spent the last year and half reading nothing but Marvel and independent titles from that era - and I really enjoyed it. This, combined with the fact that I really wasn’t enjoying what DC was currently publishing, left me with zero motivation to write about DC comics(of an era). There were a few false starts (you should see my DRAFT inbox), but nothing ever really stuck. In the meanwhile, I’ve still been moderating the DCinthe80s Facebook page. A Facebook page is pretty easy to maintain - just post an image or a link to someone else’s article - but it’s not the same as blogging. You only ever get to type a sentence or two. Facebook is really for people who just want quick bursts of info. For reasons that I can’t quite explain, my apathy towards DC has disintegrated and I’m interested again. So… I’m going to give it one last hurrah. To make this “more real”, and to “put my money where my mouth is”, I’ve purchased the www.dcinthe80s.com domain name. I’m also moving to blogspot (in case you’re wondering - blogspot gives me more creative control of my layout and etc). I’ve always wanted to publish a DIY punk rock/metal ‘zine, so that is how I will be re-branding the *NEW* DC in the 80s blog. This tumblr will remain active (for posterity), but all new content will be found on www.dcinthe80s.com. If you’re checking out the new site, you’re going to notice that the first few dozen posts will be older tumblr articles from this site - that’s okay, I’m just migrating some of my favorite articles over. There will be new content soon - I promise. I’m inviting you to join me at the new blog. I’m inviting you to contribute. I’m inviting you to comment on articles. I’m inviting to submit fan-art and articles (yes, we have a sumbissions guide). I’m inviting you to be part of the new community I will be building. I really hope to see you there. Hoping to hear from you soon. you know what else is great about blogspot? an in-line spellchecker! yeeesh: *Because it takes a special kind of person who is so dedicated to his/her hobby that he/she can keep truckin’ on. *left me with zero motivation to write about DC comics (of any era) *yes, we have a submissions guide -- source link
