humans-off:inked-up-nomad:matt-ruins-your-shit:whostolemymonkey:ar-gangbang:triggeredmedia:You don’t have free speech. You don’t have a right to overthrow tyranny. You get arrested for wrong thoughts. You have less than 10k gang members. We have 1.4 million. You have 8 people per square mileWe have 84.5 You arrest people for using the wrong pronouns or promoting pro-life stances. We have the first amendment. Here are some of the shootings in the last decadeSchool shooting in Toronto 2007School shooting in montreal 2006Quebec mosque shooting- a single gunman killed 6 people and wounded 18 Scarborough- 5 were wounded and 3 killed with a crossbowLa loche- 4 killed several wounded in a shootingEdmonton- 7 shot and killed before shooter committed suicideMoncton- 5 RCMP officers were shot 3 were killedLes Racines de vie Montessori- daycare worker shot and killed killer committed suicideScarborough block party shooting- 19 injured 2 killedClaresholm highway massacre- 4 shot and killedFrom 2009-2013 there were 977 gun homicidesLast year Toronto alone had 297 shootings“In Regina, there has been a 94-per-cent increase in violent offences involving guns over the five-year average, and a 163-per-cent increase in the number of victims of firearms offences between 2015 to 2016.”Also consider Canada is really shitty at collecting gun crime data…perhaps on purpose because they already stripped away gun rights and want you to think that you’re safe now.“What’s worse, too, is that while statistics for individual cities are available, there is no standardized method for displaying these statistics; each police department tracks different figures, and not all departments track shootings and gun homicides separately.”“The federal government has allowed this issue to languish for far too long. This, however, is not for want of information and research; Public Safety Canada produced a series of reports tackling youth and gun violence, illegal firearms markets, and strategies for reducing gun violence. The problem: the reports were released in 2007 and 2010, and are now woefully outdated. Both the report on illegal firearms markets and youth and gun violence are listed as “archived” on the government’s website; an “archive” is government lingo for a report that is too old to be of value and is no longer being updated or maintained. While a third report, entitled “Strategies for Reducing Gun Violence”, is listed as active, it refers to data from the mid-1990s and is riddled with broken web links.”The government also attempts to obfuscate the data by not reporting numbers directly but by applying analysis models and then reporting on how they are doing according to their model which they call the crime severity index. So they don’t tell you that 1.9 million crimes were committed they tell you the CSI increased 1% from the previous year. All of that aside why did the graphic need to say they have atheism twice. It doesn’t tell you that the population and culture are very different. It doesn’t tell you about the time a Canadian friend of mine had their house broken into and the police response time was 4 hours. It doesn’t tell you that among those 1.9 million crimes are murders, rapes, home invasions armed robberies…all times aside from just a mass shooting that a fucking gun to defend yourself with would come in fucking handy.Stop using Canada to push gun control in America…in fact give Canadians back their gun rights. The one thing the graphic definitely got right is Canada does have mental illness case in point…This post started out stupid and it blossomed into a beautiful master post of facts. Also don’t forget that the Canadian government tricked another country into taking a shit load of our garbage and ever since it’s been discovered, they’re not taking it back despite the apparent threat of war. So I mean, don’t use Canada as if it’s some amazing country because yeah, trust me, we’re not. -- source link
