The problem is some is these are spot on. It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife. And then the murders began. And then the murders began. I’d have enjoyed A Tale of Two Cities a lot more in high school if it started this way. This is fun - also enlightening as to how long some opening sentences can become before they hit the Full Stop / Period. Internal sentences can be much worse. I’m looking at you Jimmy Joyce you and yer “Ulysses” chapter 18 in just two sentences with the first of them 11,277 words and the second of them 12,906 words and you ya stingy bugger with just two full stops to break the flow among the lot of them and nothing else not a semicolon not even a comma could ya not have sent out for a wee box of selected highquality punctuation marks and sprinkled them like salt here and there? :-> Here are some more examples, not all of them books. There’s this:“I believe in America.” And then the murders began.And this: All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way. And then the murders began.There’s this:On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays it was Court Hand and Summulae Logicales, while the rest of the week it was the Organon, Repetition and Astrology.
