ivealwaysbeenthornheart:timemachineyeah:timemachineyeah:timemachineyeah:Some of you may remember that a couple weeks ago my roommate rescued a kitten from crows and we took him in. Well, today, in the same place, she found three more kittens (actually four, we have someone at the location working on getting the last one). They may or may not be littermates with Beaker - they’re the right age and coloring, but there are a LOT of strays in that area, so it’s also possible they area different litter born the same time. We’ll be looking after them until we can find other fosters (Beaker already has a probable forever home with his temporary foster, though we’re taking him back for the weekend. He’ll be back here tomorrow, but probably going to live with his new forever family soon) or they are old enough to adopt. Katie works with a rescue, so we have some vet care covered (though they are SWAMPED right now, as it’s kitten season). Beaker, being by himself, we could just let sleep and rest in a TNR cage in the living room and keep a constant eye on him. That’s not an option with these babies. We can set them up in the bathroom, but it’s not ideal and also not easy to keep an eye on them there (it also blocks an important litter pan for out other cats - not a good idea for our carpets).Ideally, we’d like to set them up in the living room (after they’ve had time to calm down in the bathroom and cleared their health to be near the other cats) so it’s easier to keep an eye on them and also socialize them to humans. For that we need a kennel/cage. I know I’m not a person with a lot of money (and I feel like all I ever do is ask for money) but any money given will not be for me, but for them. We have some kitten food on hand, but we’ll need more. And a nonclumping litter until they’re a little older. Luckily, unlike Beaker when we first got him, these buddies are past the bottle baby stage. They’re from a colony near a friend’s house that we’re working on setting up TNR for. Keeping them out of that colony and from growing up to breed there is super important. On the incredibly off chance someone sends more than these kittens need, it would still be used entirely for rescue. Tempering that colony as much as possible has been on our list for a long time. They have fleas for sure (A LOT OF FLEAS) and we want to deworm them but they are otherwise healthy as far as we can tell. The rescue we work with is completely overtaken this weekend, so we won’t be able to get them seen until Monday, but they should get some basic care then. The rescue helps with antibiotics and deworming, but usually not shots or blood tests. I may have some resources to tap into on that front, but nothing guaranteed. On that note: if you are in the Los Angeles area and want a kitten, we have some! Get in touch! Even if you can’t help, boosts are appreciated.Fourth kit acquired!UPDATE: One of the kittens (a little boy we have dubbed Waldorf) appears have pectus excavatum. He has a noticeable indent in his chest, like a little hole just big enough to stick your fingertip in. He’s definitely going to need a vet evaluation beyond what the rescue provides and what we can provide. X-rays and scans. It’s also likely he’ll need surgery. For now what they really need is honestly just kitten food (at the rate they are eating we’ll run out fast) and another heating pad for the kennel (which, with the help of a friend, we WERE able to get! So yay!)Plus, flea treatment. We’re doing what we can but something preventative for our existing cats and something more substantial for the kittens would sure be helpful. There are SO MANY FLEASE that I worry traditional methods will not be enough.
