fallopianrhapsody: This is James, in a short span of three years he was one of my closest and dearest friends. He was a kind, considerate, compassionate, intelligent, funny and incredibly gentle person with a big heart and jovial spirit. He talked to cats, loved vuvuzuelas, fizzy drinks, Eurovision song contest and was a feminist. He had cystic fibrosis, a nasty genetic disease that affects the pancreas, liver, gastrointestinal system and lungs. Words can barely describe what James meant to me in the last three years, and I really don’t think I could have survived them without him in my life. His friendship is the best thing that ever happened to me, and I’m thankful every day that I got the chance to know him the way I did. A nasty shock came to all of us in September when he developed hepatorenal syndrome as a result of his rapidly failing liver that was getting increasingly worse and worse as months passed. There was nothing the doctors could do as a liver transplant was out of the question for him (the immunosuppresant drugs required for such a thing would have made the bacteria in his lungs colonize in his body and kill him), and gave him at most 3 months to live. He died peacefully on November 2nd due to this complication. The funeral is on Friday and I can’t make it out due to it being in Scotland. I do not have enough to pay for the airfare and really want to pay my respects and say goodbye to my best friend. A round trip ticket to Aberdeen is $1400 and a passport is $140. His friends have offered their own accommodations should I make it out there but on my near pittance I’m not going to make enough of the funds I need for the airfare and passport. Which is why I am asking for your help. You can donate here. I’ll also be selling some of my clothes and some homemade baked goods to raise the funds. If you can’t donate then please at least give a signal boost. He meant so much to me in my life, I want to pay my respects and say goodbye. Get closure for the dearest friend I’ve ever had. Bringing this back, James’ mum is going to help with expenses if I get a plane ticket. Cheapest round trip to Aberdeen is at best $1400. I’m waiting on my visa now, I just really need help getting a plane ticket. -- source link
