A Homo Bookstore for Manhattan? “It’s hard to imagine, but Manhattan no longer has a queer bookstore. Not one. Since the closing of the landmark independent bookstores of Oscar Wilde and A Different Light, the borough has been without a bookstore dedicated to serving the queer community. Enter the Bureau of General Services – Queer Division, the now realized dream of co-owners Greg Newton and Donnie Jochum. The couple is creating a permanent bookstore and community space, complete with readings, events, a highly curated collection, and more. So what do you say New Yorkers? Lets bring a queer bookstore and gathering space back to Manhattan. The Bureau of General Services Queer Division (BGSQD) is the result of a realization by co-founders Greg Newton and Donnie Jochum that Manhattan no longer has a queer bookstore. Naturally for this duo, the next thought was, “Well, we should do it!” Since then the pair has opened a pop-up store (currently open at 27 Orchard Street in Strange Loop Gallery) and are building a highly curated collection of queer books, publications, and art.. Now they are raising funds to sign the lease on a permanent bookstore and gathering space.” More here HOMO MAGAZINE: FOLLOW US ON FACEBOOK & TWITTER -- source link
