stuffaboutminneapolis:The most Minnesota thing ever: A giant snowstorm after this warm weatherSometimes they’re right. Sometimes they’re wrong. Let’s hope they’re wrong on this one.The National Weather Service (NWS) in the Twin Cities is looking down the barrel of a forecast that hints at a “phenomenal event” projected to take place in Minnesota next Friday and Saturday. In their words, we’re headed “back to reality” with “quite the snowstorm for the region.”GoMN Radio meteorologist Mace Michaels explains why the NWS is describing the incoming storm as “phenomenal.”“The models have been locked onto the low for next Friday for several days. The phenomenal part is the amount of moisture the system may bring, let alone the agreement within the different models so far. This many days out, so many things can change. Actual moisture in the system, system strength, thunderstorm development to our south, along with the exact track will all affect how much snow the system will drop.“Small differences in any of those variables can make the difference from whether we see mainly rain, moderate snow, or an all out blizzard.”Basically, enjoy this warm spell as much as you can because all hell might break loose next week.So how much are we talking? If everything lines up, the NWS is suggesting the storm will carry 1-2 inches of water, with an inch of water equating to 10 inches of snow. Do the math – 2 inches of water could mean 20 inches of snow.via GOMN -- source link
