spiritsdancinginthenight:Joyce Carol Vincent (15 October 1965 – c. December 2003) was a British woman whose death went unnoticed for more than two years as her corpse lay undiscovered in her London bedsit. Prior to her death, Vincent had cut off nearly all contact with those who knew her. She resigned from her job in 2001 and moved into a shelter for victims of domestic abuse. Around the same time, she began to reduce contact with friends and family, possibly due to embarrassment regarding her situation or from pressure from a controlling partner. She died in her bedsit around December 2003 with neither family, friends, co-workers, nor neighbors taking notice. Her remains were discovered on 25 January 2006.At the time of her death, half of her rent was being paid for by benefit agencies, but over many months, unpaid rent began to accrue. Automatic debit payments were paying for her heat and television, which were found still running when she was discovered. Neighbors thought nothing of the continuous television sound, which was not unusual in the noisy housing compound. The odor of decomposing body tissue was attributed to nearby waste bins. Unpaid rent prompted bailiffs to break into her flat, discovering her remains. The cause of death is unknown, but is believed to have been either an asthma attack or complications from a peptic ulcer. Her death was the topic of Dreams of a Life, a 2011 drama-documentary film, available on Netflix. The film and Vincent’s life heavily inspired the progressive rock album Hand. Cannot. Erase. by Steven Wilson.http://dreamsofalife.com/Joyce SingingInterview with director of Dreams of a Life -- source link
