Well, take a page out of this marvelous book, because I swear I’ve never been so happy to receive kudos as waking up to multiple people having done this on multiple chapters on a story I just posted. The bar just got raised, folks. Would… would writers be glad to read a comment, that is saying “kudos”? We’re happy to get a smiley face, honestly. Leaving another kudos like this is great. Anything that tells us we aren’t just screaming into the void ^^^^^ This. Even the smallest comments are golddust. Seconding, thirding, and fourthing all of this. Saying or typing anything is amazing. writers are happy with anything that isn’t ‘update pls’ when you just uploaded. type the alphabet and we’ll be grinning like fools cuz ‘sames’. Even one word reviews do wonders As someone who literally left asdfghjkl; as a comment the other day, I really appreciate this post and all its additions. I think the two shortest comments that made my day are:“Fuck you”and “biTCH”Had me smiling all day I still beam whenever I think about that one person who, a year and a half ago, commented “!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” on every new update of a work I was writing at a time. Those were the most motivational punctuation marks I’ve ever encountered.There is someone who leaves some variation of a keysmash and heart emoticon on virtually every single fic I post (occasionally they include words, but that is the exception to the rule), and seeing their username always lifts my mood.There’s someone else who always comments “Lovely!” Someone else who periodically pops into my inbox with “Extra kudos.” A couple other people whose comments typically consist of a couple emojis.And I thought of all of these individuals — and more — the moment I saw this post, because all their comments, short and “simple” as they are, are ingrained in the “endless gratitude and appreciation” section of my heart.Seriously, don’t underestimate the power of letting someone know you liked what they made… whether that means three paragraphs, two words, or zero words and a single smiley face. As someone who can’t determine what people are thinking: A comment can be as small as “love this” and we *love* themI never know what people think of my fics but a small comment can go a long way for the writer -- source link
