thecoppercow:exponential63:agoodcoatshortfriend:pasiphile:biggaypictureshow:US Pride DVD Cover Criticised For Removing All Reference To HomosexualityARE THEY FUCKING SERIOUS?I mean, honestly, this is a sort of hilarious kind of awful which we really should’ve expected after the R-rating, but still, HOW THE FUCK CAN YOU TALK ABOUT PRIDE WITHOUT MENTIONING THEY’RE GAY AND LESBIAN(Wonder if they would’ve taken this further, you know: “flamboyant” Jonathan and his “special friend” Gethin, “confirmed bachelor” Mark Ashton, “Independent Feisty Young Lady” Steph, “bosom friends” Stella and Zoe…)WTF not only does this omit any reference to homosexuality but it trivialises the miners strike Fuck you and fuck the horse you rode in on…It OMITS the Miners’ Strike. The copy OMITS the word ‘miners’.‘It’s the summer of 1984, and much of blue-collar Britain is on strike’: NO NO NO.(i) Notice the freezing-cold snow and frost that feature prominently in the film, dear US distributor? The 1984–5 Miner’s Strike lasted a whole fucking year – as the film makes perfectly clear – that’s why the miners so badly needed the support of groups like Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners.(ii) For sure, the striking miners/NUM were a substantial force. But we did, you know, have other ‘blue-collar’ industries in the UK. Pride is specifically about the 1984-5 Miners’ Strike – which was, and is, a huge moment in the UK’s labour and political history – not some vague/generic ‘blue-collar’ protest. It’s also – explicitly, authentically, and really importantly – about the politics of solidarity between groups with superficially different interests and goals that were forged at that moment.re-reblogging this because I just realised they actually went to the trouble of photoshopping the strike sign out of the cover they’re that desperate I stg what is wrong with people??!They also moved the guy in front of Big Ben and shopped Big Ben back in full. Just. Why?SO MUCH EFFORT. WHY. -- source link
