frostinflandersfield:Every morning at precisely 8 am, Matthew drops by the Tim Horton’s under his apartment (thank God for Roderich and his incredible luck with real estate) and buys himself two things: a maple boston cream donut and a large coffee, two milk no sugar.Alfred is there every weekday morning, hands over the goods with a charming smile on his face and a warm chuckle when he sees Matthew stumble in with his glasses askew and his hair still wet from showering.It’s the exact same transaction repeated over months and months, the smile, the bag and cup pushed over the counter as soon as Matthew steps up (because Alfred is good at his job and Matthew is ridiculously punctual), the swipe of the Tim Card, the wave goodbye.Until one morning when Matthew isn’t on time, doesn’t walk in with his hair messy and his eyes bleary from sleep. A morning when Alfred swaps his break with another employee’s and walks up the building stairs nervously, coffee and donut clutched tight in his right hand.This is kinda changing things, but Matthew hasn’t skipped a morning visit without telling him in advance for months. And Alfred’s kind of worried, because Matthew could be sick or hurt or gone, who knows?So Alfred walks up to apartment number seven and knocks, feeling strange in his work uniform in the immaculate hallway, bouncing on the balls of his feet as he hears noise from behind the door.It opens on Matthew, half-dressed, obviously running late, who looks at Alfred with a confused expression while trying to push back his wet hair with one hand.This is more awkward than Alfred thought it would be.Alfred opens his mouth to say hello and freezes in place as Matthew smiles at him, all golden and glad and gloriously happy.
