gedditor: Mallard with a very late brood, Zealandia Photo by Jonathan Hughes The ducks like the lakes behind the dams and the wetlands at Zealandia, and the free food. They’ve learnt that if they hang around below the elevated feeding stations, the endangered native birds that frequent them are sure to drop or spill some food. This momma has set up camp a few yards away from the kakas’ feeding station, on the edge of some bushy cover. She escorts the string of ducklings across the clearing to mop up after the parrots, squawking at any humans that threaten to get in the way. -- source link
