bi-urameshi: villainous-queer: bi-urameshi: I’m glad someone put it into words bc all I could articulate was ‘banning the leather/BDSM community feels extremely Wrong and Bad considering they are part of our community’ but obviously I don’t think children should be in kink spaces. So thanks for articulating the actual problem! Yes! This! More spaces for queer youth that don’t rely on school or using adult spaces! Queer youth have different needs and this is clearly part of the larger issue of madonna/whore complex cishets put on queerness (i.e. either we are assumed to be unhealthily poor boundaried in our sexuality OR we are demanded to be or assumed to be sexuality-less–and no, not in an ace/aro way, in a gross ‘you’re not a full adult person’ virginity-is-the-only-value-you-can-have way). I agree. As a queer person from a super religious country where there are no gay rights, where there is always a bill to force my people into conversion therapy, this kind of policing just fucking sucks. It feels entitled. It feels like these American (usually) queer youths are taking their rights and freedom for granted, sucking up to the corporate, ignoring the pain the older gens went through. The first Pride is a riot. LGBTQ should never be about being conforming. It should never be about catering to our oppressors. Heck, I’d do fucking anything for kinksters to be able to parade on Indonesian streets as a big ‘fuck you’ to the government. Plus, blaming kinksters is just a homophobic, SWERF scapegoat that doesn’t solve any problem. The actual problem is the lack of space for queer youths, which we should build like cafes, book clubs etc. They are good for LGBT people who want to run businesses and who can’t stand how overwhelming Pride can be (like me). -- source link
