lucyaudley:fridakolosseum:foxspirit1928:Miss Fisher Random Thoughts (292)@heavyheadedgal did an interesting post about MFMM characters and their imaginary scents. (Link here) Coincidentally, not long after that, I saw this painting of a 1920’s flapper holding a perfume bottle on Pinterest (link here), which reminded me of her post and the delicious banter between Phryne and Jack in S2E3 Dead Man’s Chest.Jack: “What took you so long?”Phryne: “I was as quiet as a mouse.”Jack: “A mouse who wears French perfume.”Phryne: “I’ll wear less next time.”The beauty and charm of Phryne Fisher is showcased on TV in many ways: her striking feature, delicate skin, fabulous wardrobe, melodic voice, fluid movement, flawless figure… I can go on and on. Jack’s reference of the French perfume may be vague, but it provides a reference for us to imagine her scent as well.Since we can only use our imagination, everyone’s version could be quite different. This is what @heavyheadedgal says:“Phryne’s scent should be warm and bold, but also playful. Ylang ylang for sure, amber, something sensual like musk, maybe a little cypress to add a note of underlying sadness.”It sounds so beautiful and poetic. I don’t wear perfume and prefer lotion with light fruity fragrance, so I honestly can’t tell one perfume scent from another. Therefore, I will go with what she says. What about you? If you are to choose a bottle of perfume for Phryne’s birthday, what would be your choice?********************Vintage art source (via Pinterest): La Garcome (1925) by Jean-Gabriel Domerque(Posted 10-Sep-2017)In one of the books (Murder and Mendelssohn) Phryne says her favorite scent is Stephanotis. She took it with her to war and the scent evokes “obscene images” for a war-time lover with whom she is reunited. This particular lover happens to prefer men, but Phryne is so Phryne he still can’t help himself…“Stephanotis belongs to the classic collection of the house of Floris, which encompasses old and famous fragrances. Stephanotis is one of earlier fragrances by Floris (originates from the 18th ct.). Intoxicating orange blossom notes with a mild spicy nuance of carnation are contrasted to green notes of lily of the valley and evoke in such way the intensive scent of Stephanotis (jasmine sort). A floral heart includes jasmine and coriander aromas, while a base is composed of sandalwood and powdery musky notes. Stephanotis was launched in 1786.” https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Floris/Stephanotis-5552.html I have also seen in the books where Phryne wears Jicky. I have never knowingly smelled Jicky but from what I read, many think it smells like dirty diaper. This is the problem with scent association. When companies use particular scents like lavender for instance, in their products–toilet paper and baby wipes… people aren’t going to think it smells sexy any more. lol! I think Phryne today would probably would wear a scent that was created just for her by a close personal designer and perfumer friend. She probably invested in their company. It smells like ocean, cotton candy, gin and danger! She also wears Nuit d’Amour in the books which was (according to the Guerlain website) creates as a tribute to Klimt and smells “sweet, moving, and feminine” with lychee, pink pepper (kind of pine-y), rose, violet, sandalwood and iris. Next time I’m near a place fancy enough to carry Guerlain products I’m going to smell this and see if it’s smells like Phryne -- source link
