Day 1Reflections on: Escape Room: Tournament of Champions (2021)I enjoyed this just as much as I did the first Escape Room (2019) movie! It begins with a trailer-like recap of the first movie, although I would recommend watching it first to fully appreciate this sequel. This movies goes into the backstory of who creates the escape rooms and why, which is fun and silly. One day I hope to be an evil puzzle lord.Much like Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013), this movie brings back survivors of previous escape room games to face off against one another. It seems unnecessarily cruel to bring back so many people clearly suffering from PTSD and force them to fight for their lives again.Unlike a lot of horror movies where victims are chosen for some sort of moral reason so their deaths can be justified - none of these participants seem to have done anything “wrong”. None of them are super annoying. I didn’t want any of them to die! Maybe I don’t want to be an evil puzzle lord! My favourite line was “That makes this what - a tournament of champions?” The escape room scenarios are extremely elaborate - even more so than in the first movie. I kept questioning how much it must all cost and who is paying for it? A subway car covered in Tesla coils? An art deco bank of death lasers? A cave that leads to a beach which may or may not be made entirely of quicksand? Who has this kind of money!? “The clients” are referred to vaguely but I hope a future sequel explores that side of this twisted world one day. Spoiler alert: it ends with very frantic, high BPM dubstep music. -- source link
