Fearless Girl is still here, despite the fact that she was only supposed to be around for a week when she was first installed. But, the Change.org petition to keep her permanently gathered quite the support! This bronze sculpture by Kristen Visbal, commissioned by State Street Global Advisors (SSGA), a large asset management company, was installed on March 7, 2017, near the Charging Bull, in anticipation of International Women’s Day the following day. It depicts a girl four feet high, promoting female empowerment. It was relocated to across from the New York Stock Exchange Building in the Financial District of Manhattan in #NewYorkCity in 2018. Fearless Girl was commissioned to advertise for an index fund that comprises gender-diverse companies that have a relatively high percentage of women among their senior leadership. A plaque originally placed below the statue stated: “Know the power of women in leadership. SHE makes a difference,” with “SHE” being both a descriptive pronoun and the fund’s NASDAQticker symbol. Following complaints from the Charging Bull statue’s sculptor, Arturo Di Modica, who said that the statue corrupted Charging Bull’s artistic integrity by distorting the intent of his statue from “a symbol of prosperity and for strength” into a villain, and does so for SSGA’s commercial gain, the Fearless Girl sculpture was placed to where she’s now - NY stock exchange building. “Fearless Girl stands as a powerful beacon, showing women—young and old—that no dream is too big and no ceiling is too high”. My Russian grandmother would have liked her. #fearlessgirl #sculpture #nyc #newyorkcity #manhattan #nyse #newyorkstockexchange #chargingbull #history #streetart #art #women #girls #empowerment (at New York Stock Exchange) https://www.instagram.com/p/CL56YkUDTmR/?igshid=bj14dz1ka836 -- source link
