fuckyeahhiroyukisanada:For the love of God Tom! Katana wo orose! How hard is that?Joking aside, when I re-watched this movie yesterday, this scene struck me as a central point for Nathan. Up to that moment he’s be so eaten out by guilt he’s been giving up. He’s been doing things out of habit of going on, more vegetating his life than living it, drowning his consciousness in alcohol, and wishing to just die at different points in the story. Here, for whatever reason, he doesn’t give up. Despite getting beaten repeatedly, he keeps getting back up, not necessarily out of conscious decision, but more of he’s long lost spirit slowly waking up. He might lose this fight on pure technical level, but he wins something for himself - that he didn’t gave up, and that’s a start. Cue grande epic music. -- source link
