If I have to buy shoes, should I buy TOMS because it donates a pair to someone “in need”? Or are they profiting off of my desire to be nice and contributing to the “othering” of those outside of our mainstream culture by reinforcing the schism between “donors and their objects of compassion”? (p225) Are shoes really even that important? I have no clue who would become my shoe-twin and the political, historical, social, and economic factors that influence their life.-ANM -- source link
