Shit Rosanne Taught Us.There’s a Jewish law against wearing clothing of the opposite gender. It’s something I’ve never paid much thought to, to be honest. But recently, one of the kids at the camp I’m a counselor at, a Chabad camp that serves many ultra-Orthodox (Chareidi) and Chassidish families, saw me in clothing I normally wear. He was used to seeing me in what I had to wear at the camp: traditionally tsnius (modest) clothing of long skirts and long sleeve shirts, so he was pretty shocked to see me in “guy’s” jeans and a “guy’s” tee. He asked me if I was allowed to wear that. Now I know my definitions of gender are going to differ drastically from this seven year old Chabad kid, so I wasn’t going to go into that. Instead, I asked him, “do you think I’m a girl?” He said yes. So I told him, “these are my clothes. They belong to me. If I’m a girl, then these are the clothes of a girl. They’re girl’s clothes.” It satisfied him, even if traditional Jewish law would disagree. Anyways, I just thought about that as I was looking at this gif-set. -- source link
