redsamuraiii:You’re Under Arrest (2002)Based and inspired by the anime and manga of the same name, the story revolves around two female officers of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, Natsumi Tsujimoto (Misaki Ito) and Miyuki Kobayakawa (Sachie Hara), who are stationed at the Bokuto Police Station in Sumida, Tokyo. But being a police officer is not as glamorous as you would think, just like any other jobs, there are the good days and there are the bad days on the job, dealing with difficult people and challenging tasks.But it is the good rewarding days that keeps them going, such as a bus hijacking case involving a little girl whom they had encountered previously in a bicycle accident in an alley. The girl boarded a bus right before it was hijacked and the bus detoured from her destination to the hospital for her mother’s surgery. So the two officers find themselves racing against time to take the criminal down, while ensuring the safety of the passengers and making sure the girl made it to the hospital in time by putting their lives on the line. They met the girl few episodes later where she told them that she wanted to be a police officer, just like them, to save others.It’s as good as the anime, which is meant to be a lighthearted show but the plot make it more serious sometimes and I love their complex relationships as they have opposing personalities and way of doing things, which makes them conflict each other from time to time but once they learn to set aside their differences to work together, they’re an unstoppable pair. The show reflects on the standing friendship between Miyuki and Natsumi as they deal with their personal lives and their jobs as police officers, with some being portrayed as slice of life stories. -- source link
