Founded in 1985, the Guerrilla Girls are a collective of anonymous artists known for their activist work critiquing sexism and racism in and around the art world, especially focusing on statistics. The sentiments of this 1998 poster addressing women directors at the Oscars remain largely true. In the following 20 years, only another 3 women have been nominated for Best Director, each in separate years. One update can be made: Kathryn Bigelow actually won the award in 2010. Still, no women of color have ever been nominated.Guerrilla Girls (established United States, 1985). As Good As It Gets?, 1998. Printing ink on paper label with pressure sensitive adhesive.
