For what would they risk their rascal carcasses but money? -Treasure Island “Defined by their histories, distorted to fit into their narrative, until all that is left of us are the monsters in the stories they tell their children.” ~ James Flint That … was the tragedy for me. As beautiful and hopeful as it was to see him reunited with Thomas … the loss of his war hurt because I knew that what Captain Flint said would become the truth. The only truth known outside of himself and John Silver. And his “curse” on Silver will come true as well. Silver will one day be the villain in a story told by a child (Treasure Island) as he’s struggling to reclaim what he gave up. The ending is so amazing because it has happiness but also a very quiet tragedy underlying it all. Steinberg said about the finale: “There’s a way to have tragedy without it being oppressively awful: that was the line we were trying to walk.” I think they nailed it beautifully. I was thinking about this show again today, basking in how delightfully, beautifully, painfully well-told it was. -- source link
