markydaysaid: I feel like a bit of a hypocrite for makign this, since I often talk about how I despise stories having too much ‘lore’ or ‘canon.’ Whenever I open a fantasy book, if the first thing I’m greeted with is either a map or a glossary, I’m immediately turned off. I hate that fantasy has become so literal and ‘realistic.’ It’s not even fantasy anymore. It’s pseudo-history. I really feel like that kind of storytelling is detrimental to fantasy. There shouldn’t be any maps, or terms, or glossaries, or rules. Soft-magic is fantasy. Hard-magic is just fake science for nerds who aren’t smart enough to be interested in real science. Nevertheless, I made this ‘concept sheet’ as a sort of reference point for any comics I make about Kee-Va and Brule. It’ll rarely be relevant, since most of the comics I’ve planned are just about silly cave-people punsIf you interested in the idea of ‘Vril,’ you should check out a novel called ‘The Coming Race’ by Edward Bulwer-Lytton. It’s old, and the story is pretty simple, but it’s well written and belongs to a genre of fantasy that has been totally eclipsed by the likes of Tolkien and Martin. -- source link
