The numbers are very different for men. At every income level, men born in 1940 are living longer than men born a generation before. Affluent women are also living longer than their mothers. “[But] at the bottom of the distribution, life is not improving rapidly for women anymore,” Barry Bosworth, the brookings-institute economist who crunched the income and lifespan numbers, told the Wall Street Journal.
