dotterall: Late 18th century Rococo fashion plate. Typical ball gown circa 1860 If you guys haven’t noticed, I’m a massive fan of animation and character design. Something I love about Disney is the way that most of their films incorporate stylistic elements of the historical art period setting into their character design and flavour their animation with it. I just spent a couple hours getting good images to illustrate this for Beauty and the Beast which is funny because this isn’t really one of my favourites but for some reason it jumped out at me. Belle’s signature dress design is actually in the style of a classic 1860s ball gown but it’s meant to reflect the luxurious fabrics and detailing of the Rococo fashion which was popular in 1770s France where the movie is set. -- source link
