Talking about moving old homes reminded me of this: an old hotel being demolished downtown, to make way for yet more condos (*sigh*). It was such a pretty building too–it had a great big “whaling wall” (a mural featuring orcas) on the side facing the bridge (there’s a news article here where they show pictures of the original wall and early stages of its demolition). Because the building’s right beside the bridge (like literally I could have leapt across) I was really able to get up close and personal with it, even though there was blue security fencing set up between it and me.Abandoned places are really neat, and even though I’m sad this building is being torn down (and that I won’t be able to see those whales every time I cross the Granville bridge), I’m glad that I got the opportunity to see it in this state, still beautiful in its own way, before it was gone. -- source link
