dadalaimama: dynamicafrica: All Things Ankara to Mark Nigerian Independence Day with Grand Ball, “Nigerian Renaissance” Editorial Featuring Hosts Jidenna and Jessica Chibueze. Hosting their first ever official inaugural “All Things Ankara Ball” in conjunction with the celebration of Nigeria’s 55th Independence Day on October 1st, the All Things Ankara site - a platform founded by Nikki Billie Jean dedicated to highlighting the beauty of ankara fabrics and the ways in which contemporary African fashion has been shaped by it, have produced an editorial in honor of their “Nigerian Renaissance” theme. Starring Jessica Chibueze & Jidenna, the images from the campaign are a marriage of French Renaissance, Nigerian and other African aesthetics, and features the pair, along with a small selection of guards, flower bearers and ladies-in-waiting, occupying a marvelous palace setting akin to the famous Chateau de Versailles. Both Nigerian-Americans, Jessica and Jidenna are official ambassadors for the Ball and will be honored as such on the night. “Come Dry, Leave Wet” a phrase derived from Fear & Fancy (a social club co-founded by Jidenna), is the official slogan for All Things Ankara Ball and means, Going to A Party Dressed to the nines “to perfection in the most fashionable attire” (Come Dry) but having a good time, dancing and sweating out your clothing (Leave Wet). Jidenna explains the meaning of this phrase in his interview with Janelle Monáe at The Breakfast Club Power 105.1. The event will take place, Saturday, October 17th, 2015 from 9p-2a at Adele H. Stamp Student Union Grand Ballroom at The University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland.
