We are organizing to build political consciousness through shared experience and critical dialogue, following similar approaches by other feminists of color. Due to the lack of options otherwise, we feel it is necessary to begin with an online community. At this moment, we want to examine and interrogate the specificities of being young Nepali women in the midst of a hetero-patriarchal world. Our first publication will shine a creative light to the politics of home, belonging, and what it means (or doesn’t mean) to be an “independent” Nepali girl. In what ways do we navigate boundaries, choices, desires & dreams in both private and public areas (home, community, friends and relationships, school/academics, etc.)? Do we have free will now that we’ve grown up or live in a “western” society? Or are we still constrained by a unique set of limitations and expectations – if so, how? This is a collection that emphasizes storytelling and analysis directly from our own experiences. Feel free to use the above options, or explore any other sort of outlet you have in mind as well. It’s all up to you! Please e-mail any questions and/or entries for selection to himalayangirlsclub@gmail.com. If the file(s) exceed the size limit, you can upload your materials on Google drive and share it with us. To ensure privacy, we can work with you individually if you prefer anonymity or an alias name on the published format. Entries in Nepali (or other non-English languages) are allowed and do not require translation. Deadline is September 18, 2016. -- source link
